William Schaffenburg, M.D.

Dr. William Schaffenburg, dermatologist and dermopathologistDr. William Schaffenburg is a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist who will join Dermatology & Laser Associates of Medford in August 2026.

Dr. Schaffenburg completed his undergraduate studies at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude with a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a minor in Spanish. He earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University in 2014, and completed his internship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 2015. He then spent two years as a Squadron surgeon, delivering primary care to the 2nd Cavalry regiment stationed in Vilseck, Germany, where he participated in several NATO missions throughout Eastern Europe.

In 2020, Dr. Schaffenburg completed his dermatology residency at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. At Walter Reed, he served as chief resident, was named Resident Educator of the Year, and published numerous posters, case reports, and a book chapter. After residency, he was appointed associate professor of dermatology and the clerkship director at Walter Reed. He completed his dermatopathology fellowship in 2023. More recently, at the San Antonio Military Medical Center, Dr. Schaffenburg was director of inpatient dermatology and dermatopathology, and assistant program director of quality improvement and patient safety. 

His clinical interests include general dermatology, with an emphasis on dermatopathology, dermato-oncology, and contact dermatitis.

Dr. Schaffenburg grew up in multiple locations, including Mississippi, New York, New Jersey, Germany, England, and Wisconsin. He can converse in German, French, and Spanish. He is married with two children, and enjoys hiking, soccer, piano, and guitar. With strong family ties to the west coast, he is excited to move to the Pacific Northwest and serve the Rogue Valley.
